'Obama is dead'

BBC among news channels which made basic error reporting Bin Laden's death.

BBC News accidentally reported that Barack Obama had been killed in its coverage of Osama Bin Laden's death.

On the corporation's website a ticker along the top of the screen was accidentally labelled: 'Obama dead' before being hastily corrected.

The error happened at 11.19pm as the news was just breaking - and minutes before the U.S. President gave a live speech confirming the kill.

Mistake: The BBC and U.S television networks incorrectly reported that Barack Obama, right, was dead rather than Osama Bin Laden, left.

The BBC however was not alone in making basic errors in its reporting and U.S. TV networks committed a series of embarrassing blunders too.

Shortly after 11pm a reporter for MSNBC Tweeted that it was Mr Obama, not Bin Laden, who was dead.

'Obama shot and killed,' Norah O’Donnell posted on Twitter, citing NBC Chief Pentagon Correspondent Jim Miklaszewski as her source.

She later removed the post.

Wrong man: MSNBC reporter Tweeted that
the U.S. President had been killed - rather than the world's most wanted man.

Republican-supporting Fox News also blundered when its anchor Geraldo Rivera announced that Mr Obama had been shot - as live pictures showed him walking away from giving his speech.

'President Obama, speaking from the East room of the White House, telling the nation and the world President Obama is in fact dead, it was a U.S. led strategic...'

He was interrupted by his female co-anchor and corrected himself, saying: 'I’m sorry, Osama Bin Laden is dead, a strategic operation, they caught him in a mansion outside Islamabad. 'dailymail.co.uk'

  7. We as Musims want him dead. He has mislead several about the real Islam. He has caused to die more Muslims(in Iraq and elsewhere) then Kafirs while our religion forbids even to kill them. Holy Quran clearly says in Soorathul Maaidha verse 32: "whoever kills a human being except in lieu of killing or causing turmoil in the earth, so it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and whoever saves the life of one person, is as if he had saved the life of all mankind." Even in the conventional warfare, Muslims are prohibited to kill women, children, hermits and old people. Usama bin Laden and the likes have turned people against us ... and made them link the name of Islam with terrorism. We are astonished at those people who justify these acts and see them as jihad in the name of Allah. No, Islam is a religion of mercy and peace. How does it help Islam, when the blood of civilians is shed around the world, like in Iraq, Afghanistan, New York, Madrid, Bali, Casablanca, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and lately in London at the hands of those killers and criminals ... who are falsely linked to Islam. Sadly, most of us are so ignorant about our Religion when they hail and advocate these Infidels. Our Brothers and Sisters, open up your eyes and see the beauty of Islam by gaining correct knowledge from right sources. May Allah guide me and all of us.
